What is Direct Access to physical therapy? Simply put, Direct Access is the opportunity to receive physical therapy services without a physician’s referral. Ultimately this means you can get an immediate evaluation and treatment for your injury without the delay of needing to see another healthcare professional. Your physical therapist will determine if therapy is needed or if you should be examined by a doctor. In Pennsylvania, a physical therapist with a Direct Access license can evaluate and treat you for up to 30 days without a doctor’s prescription.
But what about insurance? Insurance is always changing and often confusing but most health insurance policies allow for coverage of P.T. services without a referral. Auto insurance is no different, in that it varies from one company to another. You can contact your insurance company directly and ask if physical therapy services are covered without a referral or phone us and we can help you to get started.
Ultimately, Direct Access may be a way for you to save time and money during your recovery. Give us a call to get started.
